Busellato CNC Shapes Wind Turbine Blades for Renewable Energy Project

Engineering students at Madison Area Technical College, seeking to build a proto-type wind turbine, turned to the Cabinetmaking & Millwork Department to machine the 5’ long wooden blades. Mike Lesch, Applications Engineer for Delmac Machinery, provided initial advice using Alphacamto demonstrate how both sides of the blade could be programmed and secured using vacuum jigs. The blades were machined on our Busellato Jet 100 Machining Center.

The class designed and constructed a 1 kW turbine made to be highly visible, aesthetically pleasing and able to withstand the Wisconsin climate. The project also included two smaller functional classroom models intended as educational aids which can be disassembled for greater mobility and transport on campus. View a 3” video of the project
